About This Project
Attilla Danko created ClearDarkSky in 2001. For over two decades, it became (and still is) the go-to forecast tool for amateur astronomers across North America with thousands of stargazers checking cloud cover, transparency, and seeing conditions before heading out with their telescopes.
Attilla passed away in November 2024. His spouse continues to maintain the site, but the underlying technology is aging and parts of it are slowly breaking. The astronomy community needs a modern successor.
I'm building ClearDarkSky App to be a mobile-first, open-source rebuild that honors Attilla's work. Same mission and spirit, built for today's web.
